Construction works

Maintenance and renovation work on the Belvedere trail and the Panoramic lifts: These works serve to ensure the safety and long-term preservation of the facility and the site. 

The viewing platforms at the Rhine Falls and Schloss Laufen are accessible at all times. Please note the access routes listed below and the signage on the site.

Belvedere trail (step-free access to the Rhine Falls):
Closed from 5 January to 31 March 2026

Panoramic lifts:
Out of service from 5 January to 31 January 2026

The following access will be apply for the duration of the works:

Arriving by train – from/to the railway station

  • to the castle ground with restaurant and visitor centre is only possible via the natural stone steps (until 31 January). Accessible from 1 February with the panoramic lift.
  • to the viewing platforms is possible via the natural stone steps (via castle courtyard).

Arriving by car/bus

  • to the castle ground with restaurant and visitor centre is possible without restrictions.
  • to the viewing platforms is possible via the natural stone steps (via castle courtyard).

Visitors with limited mobility

  • from/to the railway station to step-free «Belvedere» viewing platform is not possible.
  • from/to the railway station to the castle ground with restaurant and visitor centre is not possible. Accessible from 1 February with the panoramic lift.
  • from the car park to the viewing platforms is not possible.
  • from the car park to the castle ground with restaurant and visitor centre is possible without restrictions.

As an alternative for visiting the Rhine Falls without any steps, we recommend arriving on the Schaffhausen side, Neuhausen am Rheinfall, Schlössli Wörth.
